Working through the Messy Middle
Launching my editorial business has taught me a lot.
A fellow entrepreneur described the period between identifying a business plan and launching it as ‘the messy middle’. I am right there, wading forward. Starting A2 Editorial, my freelancing business, doesn’t look like I thought it would. Learning curves are more like learning cliffs, but I keep taking leaps of faith.
RT Accounting quickly answered my questions about Sole Proprietorships vs. LLCs.
I almost fell for a scam getting my EIN. It’s always free; don’t trust what Google boosts. But Elton’s infosec warnings rang in my head and stopped me from getting tricked.
I discovered that editing a WordPress site and building one are VERY different. When I got stuck, Laura Toledo jumped in with her expertise.
When technical knowledge falls short, people boost you up. That’s my business philosophy: human connection matters, and it’s those relationships that bridge differences across identities, cultures, and lived experiences. Even in the Gen AI boom, I’ll keep investing and believing in the relationships I built. They are what will move me through the messy middle.
If you’re interested in learning more about my editorial business, I’ll be sharing on LinkedIn. I’ll continue writing Chaos Kitchen blogs, but right now I’m focusing on A2 Editorial and selling candles in my Etsy shop. I cannot wait to share more updates in the next month.
